Prof Chen Shen

Dr. Chen Shen is Vice President Art and Culture and Senior Curator at the Royal Ontario Museum, the largest museum of art, culture and nature in Canada. Currently Dr Shen is a visiting professor at ADM in Culture Heritage and Museum Studies program. He gained his PhD in 1997 from the University of Toronto in the field of anthropological archaeology and conduct his fieldwork research in China, US, and Canada. His curatorial responsibility include the museum’s 60,000 of East Asian collection, and curated many major exhibitions in collaboration with Chinese cultural institutions and museums. Dr Shen is an cross-appointed professor at University of Toronto where he teaches Art and Archaeology of Early China and Technology and Material Cultures in Ancient China. Among many publications, Dr. Shen published Anyang and Sanxingdui: Unveiling the Mysteries of Ancient Chinese Civilizations (2002), and is co-editor of Current Research in Chinese Pleistocene Archaeology (2003), Human Evolution and Peopling of America section for Encyclopedia of Global Archaeology (2014). His most recent publications include Relevance and Applications of Heritage in Contemporary Society (co-edited 2018) and Entering the World of Wonder: Thoughts on Contemporary Museums (in press).
