Mr Alan Goh Choon Leong
Senior Lecturer, College of Business (Nanyang Business School)
|Alan is a senior lecturer at the Nanyang Business School and he teaches Total Rewards (Compensation and Benefits) and Management courses for undergraduates. He was also appointed as the external examiner for Singapore Polytechnic for its Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology program.|
Prior to joining academia, Alan was a Human Resource Practitioner for about 25 years in global multinational companies such as Motorola, Siemens, DHL, Qimonda, Schneider Electric and Invista as well as in Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) which is a statutory board in Singapore. Alan was also a civil and structural engineer in the earlier years of his career and he was part of the construction team that built the Changi Airport Terminal 2.
In the manufacturing sector, Alan lead a team of production employees that manufactured high-tech mobile devices such as pagers, cellular phones, walkie-talkies and others during his initial working years in Motorola and he was later identified to join the HR team in the training and development department and eventually in the HR shared services and compensation and benefits role.
Alan held senior position as the Head of Total Rewards function for Singapore, South-east Asia and Asia Pacific region in his previous organizations. Some of the large scale HR projects which Alan had spearheaded includes setting up of Rewards Shared Services, merger and acquisition of companies and spin-off of businesses from the total rewards perspectives as well as transformation of rewards policies and practices to support business needs.
Alan graduated from the National University of Singapore with Master in Science (Human Resource Management) and Degree in Engineering (Civil and Structural). He earned his post-graduate diplomas in Business Administration (GDBA) and Personnel Management (GDPM) from the Singapore Institute of Management. Alan is also a certified Global Remuneration Professional (GRP) which is a globally recognized C&B certification awarded by WorldatWork.
In terms of academic achievements, Alan was awarded the British Petroleum Silver Medal and UOB Group Bank Bronze Medal from Singapore Institute of Management for his excellent academic results in the GDPM and GDBA programs respectively.
As for teaching contribution to the industry, Alan was the pioneer batch of lecturers who started the Diploma in Compensation and Benefits program (Dip C&B) for Singapore Human Resource Institute (SHRI) in which he developed and taught the C&B courses for HR and C&B practitioners for 3 years on a part-time basis in the evening or night classes.
In summary, Alan had multi-disciplinary careers during his life-time spanning from engineering, manufacturing, human resource management and academia and he pursued life-long learning to adapt to these evolving careers.
During his stay in NTU, Alan's mission is to nurture and develop the next generation of HR leaders and specialists who are highly capable and well respected by business leaders in the industry for their strong technical knowledge in compensation and benefits as well as management and leadership skills.
