National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Nov 2014 grant call will open on 3 Nov.

Letter of Intent

Aim to foster closer interactions between the basic scientist and the clinicians to translate scientific discoveries in the laboratory to clinical useful and commercially viable applications to improve health outcomes.

 

Team must consist of:

  • Basic scientist PI + clinical PI
  • Industrial partner is preferred

$1mil for each PI

(A*Star PI will be eligible for additional $3mil funding inclusive of 20% indirect cost)

Health Services Research New Investigator Grant (HSR-NIG)

Only funds health services research with strategic research areas and yearly themes. HSR strategic areas and themes is not applicable to NIG.

Funds platforms and programmes that will pre-position Singapore as a desirable location for industry to undertake translational and clinical research activities

  • Contribute directly /indirectly to enhancing capabilities in clinical research
  • Support multiple projects and industry partnerships
  • Lead to substantial collaboration with industry
  • Letters of intent from 2 industry partners
  • Letters of intent from 1 industry sponsor
$3million (including 20% indirect cost)

PI must be basic scientist with PhD

A basic scientist co-investigator not from NTU is required

1 application for each CS-IRG call or either one for TA/CSA/STAR

Clinical Trial Grant (CTG) Investigator Initiated Trial -

Early Phase Scheme (IIT-E): Supports investigator-initiated Phase I and II clinical trials

 

Late Phase Scheme (IIT-L): Supports late Phase III and IV clinical trials that are investigator-initiated

PI clinically qualified (MD/MBBS/BDS) with clinical specialty certification

Full time residency in Singapore

Fulfil HSA's requirements for PIs who are conducting clinical trials

  • Partnership with industry is optional
  • IP must reside in Singapore

IIT-E:$7 million

IIT-L: $4 million (including 20% indirect cost)

Clinician Scientist – Individual Research Grant – New Investigator Grant (CS-IRG-NIG)$200,000​2

Transition Award (TA)

Assist budding, young clinicians who have just returned from formal research training to build up their capability in research.

PI must be clinically qualified (MD/MBBS/BDS)

Preferable with post graduate clinical training

Upon award

  • hold a regular-rank faculty/academic appointment in one of the academic medical centres or medical school
  • awardee will need to obtain citizenship or PR status

For TA

Received scientific training (PhD, Masters or at least 2 years of post-MBBS/MD intensive research experience)

 

For CSA

PI must have at least one national or international research grant, equivalent to an Individual Research Grant (IRG)-level grant

Clinician Scientist Award (CSA)

Provides salary and funding support for selected outstanding clinician scientists, in carrying out internationally competitive translational and clinical research.

Singapore Translational Research Investigator Award (STaR)

A scheme to attract and nurture established, world-class clinician investigators to undertake cutting edge translational and clinical research in Singapore.

Medically qualified doctors (MDs/MBBS) with advanced clinical specialty training or PhDs active in clinical research

Upon award applicant must hold

  • academic appointment in one of the academic medical centres or medical school
  • primary appointment in a local public hospital/public health institutions/national specialty centre/public university/Academic Medical Centre and be salaried by the institution
  • at least 9 months of residency in Singapore for each calendar year over the duration of the grant award
Max $600,000 salary per annum + $500,000 start-up + $5million research grant​5

  • Clinical lead PI applies to NMRC to support the remaining 50% or less of project cost
  • Must be supported by a Research Collaboration Agreement (RCA)

MOH Industry Alignment Fund Category 1 (MOH IAF Cat 1)

 

Aims to facilitate partnerships between clinicians and industry in pre-clinical and clinical studies

  • Industry partner is required to contribute 70% of the Total Project Cost (in-kind and cash contributions)
  • Principal Investigator may apply for funding of the remaining ≤30%
  • Total Project Cost will be based on the Research Collaborative Agreements (RCAs) signed

Preclinical: $500,000
Clinical: $1million

Preclinical + clinical: $1.5milion

1 Oct : Early grant call reminder to PIs

14 Oct : RSO briefing/discussion forum with PIs

24 Oct : Indication of interest from PIs

3 Nov : Grant call opens and availability of application forms via nGager

24 Nov : Submission to RSO for checks and endorsement (Bedside and Bench deadline is 8 Dec)
