​This is an early grant call prompt for National Medical Research Council (NMRC) May 17 grant call. The grant call will open on 1 May.

PIs are strongly encouraged to start your preparation early if you're interested in applying for the relevant grant types. Additional details of the grants available can be found on NMRC's website closer to 1 May.​

NMRC May 17 grant call

 

Open to All PIs (PhD/MBBS/MD/BDS)

PI must hold a primary appointment in a publicly funded institution and salaried by institution (not under any grants)

To promote excellence in translational and clinical research; nurture a vibrant research community of clinicians and enhance knowledge translation for better health and economic outcomes. OF-LCG represent a unique opportunity to bring together investigators from across all of Singapore with clinician scientists and cli​​nical investigators in the hospitals and Academic Medical Centres.

Health Services Research Grant - White Space

There will still be targeted HSR calls. However, MOH/NMRC will only release the targeted HSR call details in their roadshows in April.    
 

   

 

​Capped at two applications for each PI


 

No restriction on topic, and seeks investigator-led HSR which may provide insights on new disruptive solutions for current and future healthcare challenges. Applications will be assessed based on the ability to address the challenges of

(i) increasing demand from ageing population

(ii)  shrinking workforce

(iii) healthcare cost inflation

No maximum for funding and duration (direct cost + 20% indirect research cost)

Reasonableness of budget and time taken to implementation will form part of the assessment

Health Services Research Grant New Investigator Grant (HSRG-NIG) ​Capped at one application for each PI​


HSRG-NIG is a step for the new investigator to a first independent national level grant.

·PI must not have held any grants cumulatively > $300,000 from any other agencies

Maximum 1 application for CS-IRG and 1 for STAR/CSA/TA for each PI

Transition Award (TA)

Assist budding, young clinicians who have just returned from formal research training to build up their capability in research.

​PI must be clinically qualified (MD/MBBS/BDS)

Preferable with post graduate clinical training

Upon award

·hold a regular-rank faculty/academic appointment in one of the academic medical centres or medical school

·primary appointment in a local public hospital/public health institutions/national specialty centre/public university/Academic Medical Centre and be salaried by the institution

·awardee will need to obtain citizenship or PR status

For TA

Received scientific training (PhD, Masters or at least 2 years of post-MBBS/MD intensive research experience)

For CSA

PI must have at least one national or international research grant, equivalent to an Individual Research Grant (IRG)-le​vel grant

​salary and + $375,000 research grant + 20% indirect cost ​3
Clinician Scientist Award (CSA)    
 

Provides salary and funding support for selected outstanding clinician scientists, in carrying out internationally competitive translational and clinical research.

Singapore Translational Research Investigator Award (STaR)

A scheme to attract and nurture established, world-class clinician investigators to undertake cutting edge translational and clinical research in Singapore.

​Medically qualified doctors (MDs/MBBS) with advanced clinical specialty training


 

Upon award applican​t must hold

·hold a regular-rank faculty/ academic appointment in one of the academic medical centres or medical school

·primary appointment in a local public hospital/public health institutions/national specialty centre/public university/Academic Medical Centre and be salaried by the institution

·at least 9 months of residency in Singapore for each calendar year over the duration of the grant award

​Max $600,000 salary per annum +  $5million research grant + 20% indirect cost ​5
Clinical Trials Grant (CTG)

Clinical trials for the development of novel therapies, interventions and diagnostics, focusing on healthcare needs. 

2 categories

CTG-Industry Collaborative Trials (CTG-ICT) open call: Supports clinical trials of strategic industry partnerships that are important for the development of the clinical trials landscape in Singapore. ICTs involve both clinician and company contributing intellectual inputs and funds to conduct the trial


CTG-Investigator-Initiated Trials (CTG-IIT): For early and late phase trials  initiated and driven by clinicians who are interested to conduct trials ​

​·PI must fulfill HSA's requirements for conducting clinical trials
 ·Medically qualified doctors (MDs/MBBS) with advanced clinical specialtytraining


 

Open to all research themes

For CTG-ICT open call

Industry contribution of at least ≥70% (cash or in-kind) of the Total Project Costs (TPC) based  on Research Collaborative Agreement between the host institution and the industry partner

 

For CTG-IIT

No minimum industry contribution, however, applications with industry contribution would have higher priority.

​CTG-ICT: 30% of the TPC + 20% indirect costs

 

CTG-IIT: $1.5mil (inclusive of 20% indirect costs)
