ASPIRE League Research Grant 2014

The Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) is soliciting proposals for FY2014 joint research projects under ASPIRE League Research Grant program of Tokyo Tech.

This grant aims to promote and enhance collaborative relationships among member universities and is expected to present an opportunity to strengthen and further develop research activities jointly conducted by member universities. The grant call is open to faculty members who would be interested in applying to the ASPIRE League Research Grant programme as co-researchers

For 2014, two types of grants will be offered.

·          Type 1*new

A principal researcher at Tokyo Tech will suggest a research theme and the ASPIRE League Secretariat will propose this theme to member universities. Afterward the Secretariat will select co-researchers from among interested applicants from member

Universities. (Does not require that specific researchers of ASPIRE League universities be decided at time of application)

·          Type 2:

Principal researchers should apply for the grant with the mutual consent of all researchers involved in the joint research. (Requires that specific researchers of ASPIRE League universities be decided at time of application)

Eligibility criteria

Application must be submitted by Professor(s) or Associate Professor(s) in Tokyo Tech as a Principal Researcher.

For Type 1:

·          The Tokyo Tech principal researcher of a research group should implement the research with member universities.

·          The Tokyo Tech principal researcher of a research group should work together with the ASPIRE League secretariat to select co-researchers of the proposer research project.

·          A satellite laboratory must be established to implement a joint research project.

For Type 2:

·          The research group must include researchers (Professors or equivalent) of two or more ASPIRE League member universities other than Tokyo Tech.

·          A satellite laboratory must be established to implement a joint research project.

Amount of Grant and Number of Projects that will be awarded

·          Type 1: Maximum 5,000,000 JPY per group

·          Type 2: Maximum 3,000,000 JPY per group

Terms of Grant

The grant must be used for the purpose of conducting a joint research project. It may be used for such items:

·          International travel expenses

·          Research expenses at Tokyo Institute of Technology

·          Operation costs for the satellite laboratory

Period

·          Type 1: 1 June 2014 – 31 March 2015

·          Type 2: 1 May 2014 – 31 March 2015

Submission deadline by Professors or Associate Professors of Tokyo Tech

·          Type 1: 31 January 2014

·          Type 2: 28 March 2014
