| Biography |
| Adjunct Associate Professor Hong Yan was awarded his BSc in 1984 by Sichuan University. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Peking Union Medical College (now part of TsingHua University)in 1989. He has worked in biotech industry and universities in US and Singapore since then. He is currently the Director of Plant Biotechnology (Strategic Research Program) in Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory. He is a member of Singapore Genetic Modification Advisory Committee (GMAC), an evaluator for Singapore Center for Drug Administration (CDA) and part of expert panel for herbal medicines, Health Sciences Authority (HSA) Singapore. In addition to more than 30 scientific publications, he also has nine patents awarded or pending. He also serves in two biotechnology companies in Singapore. |

His current research interest are:
Jatropha curcas as a biofuel feedstock plant;
Biotechnology of tropical forestry species;
Plant metabolic engineering;
Plant tissue culture and genetic modification;
DNA marker and other technology development. |
