| Biography |
Ramakrishna Kakarala received the Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of
California, Irvine, and the M.S. in Electrical Engineering and the B.S. in Computer
Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He was a Chancellor’s Fellow
at Irvine, and member of the honorary societies Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi at
Michigan. From 1992-1999, he was a Lecturer, promoted to Senior Lecturer, at the
University of Auckland, New Zealand, where he carried out research in image processing
and computer vision. From 2000-2008, he was a Research Engineer at Agilent
Technologies and it’s spinoff, Avago Technologies, where he was promoted to Expert
Level, and Master Level in 2006. While at Avago, he carried out research in digital
imaging for cellphone cameras and optical mouse sensors. The technologies he
developed have led to the smallest optical mouse sensor, the most power-efficient sensor,
and the most power-efficient laser mouse sensor. Avago has sold more than 200 million
of the sensors using his algorithms. His work has resulted in 19 US patents granted on
digital imaging and applications, with more pending. |

2) Multiresolution linear algebra: Singular value decomposition, matrix factorization
3) Smart sensors: Image sensor applications for metrology |
