Biography
Rachid Yazami is a Visiting Professor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, NTU and serves as the Energy Storage Programs Director at ERIAN.

Prof. Yazami served as a Visiting Associate at the California Institute of Technology in collaboration with JPL/NASA for 10 years (2000-2010). In 2007, while with Caltech he founded CFX Battery Inc. (now Contour Energy Systems), a startup company on fluorine based primary and rechargeable batteries located in Azusa, California.

More recently, Yazami founded KVI Pte Ltd in Singapore. KVI develops systems for battery management through thermodynamics data aimed at enhancing battery life and safety.

Yazami served as the President of the International Battery Association (IBA) and as active member of several Scientific Advisory Boards of International Battery conferences and events.

Dr. Yazami, is a graduate of INP Grenoble (engineer degree (MS) in electrochemistry, 1978) where he also received his Ph.D. in graphite intercalation compounds for lithium batteries (1985), and began his career and rose to research director (professor) at CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) in Grenoble, France.

Yazami is the inventor involved in more than 50 patents related to batteries, including nano-Si and nano-Ge based anodes for ultra-high rate charge lithium batteries, the lithium-carbon fluoride battery for space and medical applications. He also discovered the lithium graphite anode in 1980 today used in commercial lithium-ion batteries an over US$10B market.

Dr. Yazami is the recipient of several scientific awards, including from NASA, NATO, IBA and the Hawaii Battery Conference. He also served as PI on sponsored battery research collaborations and/or consulting with organizations such as Sony, Sanyo, Mitsubishi Chemicals, ENAX, DRT, SAFT, Carbone Lorraine, Matra Communication, France Telecom, Elf-Atochem, Arkema USA, Superior Graphite Co., MER Co., ONA Group and Quallion in USA.
