Biography
Assoc Prof Christopher Shearwood has been attached to the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering since 1998. He is closely affiliated to the MEMS Research Centre. He graduated from the Department of Physics, Leeds University, UK with a Physics Honours Degree in 1984 and then a PhD in Solid State Physics in 1988. His research supervisor was Professor D. Greig.
Research Interests
Assoc Prof Christopher Shearwood main research focus are in the area of MEMS, BIOMEMS, sensors and actuators although he has also accumulated experience in transdermal drug delivery, spintronics, thin film magnetism, x-ray topography, electron and ion beam lithography, shape memory alloys, and nano-metals. He has published over 40 top quality international journal papers, as well as numerous conference papers, book chapters, and patents.
Current Projects
  • A STUDY OF THE ANTIMICROBIAL EFFECT OF A TIME-VARYING MAGNETIC FIELD ON A MIXED-SPECIES BIOFILM
  • An investigation on the influence of residual stresses and cold work on fatigue performance
  • Development of bio-chambers to support the reproducible growth of multiple-species biofilms
  • Enhancing team-based-learning experience through e-materials and technology platform development
  • Smart, anti-microbial micro-needles for transdermal drug delivery
