Biography
Lihua Xie received Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from The University of Newcastle, Australia, in 1992, B.E. and M.E. degrees in control engineering from Nanjing University of Science and Technology in 1983 and 1986, respectively.

From April 1986 to January 1989, he was a teaching assistant and then a lecturer in the Department of Automatic Control, Nanjing University of Science and Technology. He joined The Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 1992 where he is currently a Professor at The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Director, Centre for Intelligent Machines and Deputy Head of the Division of Control and Instrumentation.

His current research interests include robust control, networked control systems, sensor networks, estimation theory and signal processing, delay systems, and control of hard disk drives. In these areas, he has published over 180 journal papers and co-authored two patents and the books H-infinity Control and Filtering of Two-dimensional Systems (with C. Du); Optimal and Robust Estimation (with F.L. Lewis and D. Popa) and Control, Estimation of Systems with Input/Output Delays (with H. Zhang) and Modeling and Control of Vibration in Mechanical Systems (with C. Du). His research work has been widely cited with Science Citation Index of over 3600 and H-index of 28. He served as the General Co-Chair of 2002 International Conference on Control and Automation (ICCA’02), the Program Chair of the Fourth International Conference on Control and Automation (ICCA’03) and the 8th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision (ICARCV’04), and the General Chair of the 9th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision (ICARCV’06). He is a Changjiang visiting professor of South China University of Technology, an adjunct Professor of Harbin Institute of Technology and Dalian University of Technology, and a Guest Professor of Xiamen University and Nanjing University of Science and Technology. He also held visiting appointments at California Institute of Technology, Melbourne University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is an editor of IET Book Series on Control, an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology and The Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control, an associate editor at large of Journal of Control Theory and Applications, and a member of Editorial Board of IET Proceedings - Control Theory and Applications. He served as an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control from Jan. 2005 to Dec. 2007, Automatica from Jan. 2007 to Dec. 2009, IEEE Transactions on Circuit and Systems-II from Jan. 2006 to Dec. 2007, International Journal of Control, Automation and Systems from Jan. 2004 to Dec. 2006 and the Conference Editorial Board, IEEE Control System Society from 2000-2004. Lihua Xie is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers of Singapore.
