|Cheng Boon received his PhD in Business and Management from the University of South Australia. He lectures at the Nanyang Business School in NTU where he teaches Organisational Behaviour and Leadership for both undergraduate and master levels. In addition, Cheng Boon also developed the Independent Study Module (ISM-Case Study) for MBA programme. Other than course co-ordinator for Organisational Behaviour, Leadership, he is also the course co-ordinator lecturer and one of the supervisors for ISM as part of the MBA programme. Cheng Boon is a certified executive coach and he is also certified to administer a myriad of psychometric tools include Golden and Sosie Personality Tests, EQ-i, and DISC. He also has a vast experience in providing consultancy services on assessment centres for various organisations included NCSS, MOE, NEA and so on. Cheng Boon also provides consultancy services on Training Performance Measurement and Analysis. He is also an Executive Coach for the new commanding officers in the SAF.
Currently, Cheng Boon and a research team are investigating into career transition for PME. In collaboration with colleagues from NBS, Cheng Boon contributed in the development of two case studies on RSAF Transformation Journey for Strategic Management Module in 2013. His research interests include emotional intelligence and leadership effectiveness, calibration between confidence and accuracy, career transition, and training development and evaluation. He also presented his research in 55th IMTA (International Military Testing Association) conference in 2013, Australia New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM), and 5th Annual Asia Pacific Emotions in Worklife (APSEW) in 2010. In 2008, he was invited to present at 13th International Training and Education Symposium at Japan Defence Force College in 2008 on the topic of Challenges and Development of Professional Military Education and Training.
Prior to joining NTU in 2012, Cheng Boon served in the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and his last appointments were Commander Air Warfare Training Institute (AWTI) and Head Training Development Group (Hd TDG) from May 2007 to Dec 2011. Cheng Boon has a solid track record and achievements as demonstrated in various important activities and events such as setting up of Air Force Training Command (AFTC), organising National Day Parades (NDP) in 2004, 2005 and 2006 as well as working with various government and civilian agencies to develop comprehensive security protection plan for the President of the United States’ visit in 2003. He is also proficient in crisis management, negotiation, training need analysis, psychometric survey development, training evaluation, analysis and management system, and introducing new learning pedagogies such as case-based, ELearning and virtual reality simulation training.
Cheng Boon was awarded the National Day Award (Military) in 2006 by the President of Singapore, In 2008, he was presented the Chief of Air Force’s CARDINAL Award for his contributions in people and leadership development in the RSAF. He is a graduate of the SAF Command and Staff College.
