Biography
Bing Feng's current research focus is in fluids and structures as well as their interaction through FSI.

The first research area involves the study of fluid mechanics to achieve energy and environment sustainability in aerospace and building applications. In aerospace, the research focuses on drag reduction for low speed aerodynamics as well as integration of machine learning techniques to improve computational efficiency. In buildings, the research is in the manipulation of building flow dynamics through both active and passive means achieved through IoT enabled predictive control methods and radiative coolers. In parallel, investigation is extended to atmospheric and environmental science, focusing on the fundamentals of aerosol dynamics in two-phase flows as well as experimental investigations into pollution/emission characterisation.

The second research area focuses on structural dynamics to fundamentally investigate energy savings that can be derived from lightweight and topologically optimised structures with specific application in rotary systems (including helicopters, wind turbines, vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) systems, etc). This involves understanding the limits of advanced manufacturing techniques (such 3D printing) to achieve lightweight structures and their characterisation in terms of dynamic responses. This further extends to fluid-structure interactions (FSI) in aero-servo-elasticity, wind and marine applications as well as improving computational efficiency.
